Apple has launched the 2024 iPad Pros

which boast significant upgrades, potentially the most substantial since the series debuted. These new models feature the Apple M4 chipset, built on a second-gen 3nm node. The CPU is 1.5 times faster than the M2, and graphics tasks can see a boost of up to 4 times. Efficiency is doubled, delivering the same performance as the M2 but at half the power. Apple has also unveiled several new AI-powered features for Final Cut Pro and other apps, supported by the M4, which promises up to 38 TOPS. For comparison, the Snapdragon X Elite promises 45 TOPS.

In terms of design

these are the thinnest Apple products ever. The 11” model is 5.3mm thick, while the 13” model is even thinner at 5.1mm. The aluminum bodies of the tablets, available in Silver and Space Black, are made from 100% recycled materials.

Two OLED panels

Moving to the displays, mini-LED and IPS LCD are out, replaced by tandem OLED displays. These displays consist of two OLED panels layered on top of each other to boost brightness, promising up to 1,000 nits for SDR content and up to 1,600 nits for HDR. The ProMotion displays can adjust their frame rate between 10Hz and 120Hz, with both models offering a pixel density of 264ppi.

Additionally, Apple offers optional nano-textured glass for the displays to reduce glare and scatter less ambient light, at an extra cost of $100, available only with the 1TB and 2TB models.

Apple is also introducing a Pro version of its stylus, the Apple Pencil Pro, which features a new sensor that senses how hard you squeeze the stylus, triggering actions such as quickly changing tool settings while drawing. Squeeze gestures are confirmed by a custom haptic engine, and the Pencil Pro connects to the Find My network for easy tracking if lost.

Finally, there are new accessories, including the all-new Magic Keyboard, which is thinner and lighter, matching the more slender design of the new Pro tablets. The keyboard now includes a function row and has a larger trackpad. For those who don’t need a full keyboard, there is also a new Smart Folio that attaches magnetically to the tablet and can hold it at multiple viewing angles.
