As a photographer and filmmaker, Raymond Depardon has captured some of the most iconic images of the century, including portraits of athletes in Olympic competition between 1964 and 1980. The new campaign, developed in collaboration between Samsung and the City of Paris, pays homage to Raymond’s renowned work and represents a passing of the torch. Raymond’s iconic black-and-white archival imagery is exhibited alongside new images from his son Simon, who has focused his lens on some of the latest Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.

The series of images features Team Samsung Galaxy athletes: Sarah Bee (Breaking), Aurélien Giraud (Skateboarding), Mejdi Schalck (Sport Climbing), and Yvan Wouandji (Blind Football). These artworks are currently being showcased at nine iconic Parisian landmarks and city sites, including Rue du Louvre, Pont de la Concorde, and Rue des Pyramides, until early September 2024.

“I was thrilled to participate in this project because it is the first time ever that my photos are being displayed alongside my father’s,” said Simon Depardon. “The artwork not only features four incredible French athletes playing their sports but also showcases each athlete’s human character through portraits.” Simon further highlighted the exceptional performance capabilities of the Galaxy S24, which allowed for the creation of artistically fitting images within the city.

From June 24 through September 8, 2024, fans are invited to engage with the campaign by sharing messages of support for Team Samsung Galaxy via a QR code featured on each image. These messages will be displayed at Samsung’s Olympic™ rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 and Village Plaza, Samsung’s athlete lounge within the Olympic and Paralympic Village during the Games.

“The mission of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is to bring the world together in a spirit of openness,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through our collaborative campaign with Raymond and Simon Depardon, Samsung is utilizing innovative Galaxy technology to write another chapter in the nearly 40-year story of supporting the best ideals that the Olympic and Paralympic Games have to offer.”
