Chip-maker Nvidia became the world’s most valuable company
after its share price reached an all-time high on Tuesday. Now valued at $3.34 trillion (£2.63 trillion), Nvidia’s stock has nearly doubled since the start of this year. The stock ended the trading day at nearly $136, up 3.5%, surpassing fellow tech giant Microsoft. Earlier this month, it also overtook Apple. Nvidia’s meteoric rise has been driven by its dominance in producing the chips essential for artificial intelligence (AI), which analysts are calling the “new gold or oil in the tech sector.
Maybe next year, the race to a $4 trillion market cap in tech will be front and center between Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft.
